Join us on the Island (Grand Island, that is) for our summer fundraiser, South Pacific!
Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples - US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque, and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl, Liat - and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices. Considered by many the finest musical ever written, the score’s songs include such classics as “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair,” “Bali Ha’i,” “There is Nothin’ Like A Dame,” and “A Wonderful Guy.”
Directed by an aspiring performer and Northwest High School alum, Patrick Stephen Brown is currently studying Music Performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He, and a group of friends from the Grand Island area who are also studying various forms of the performing arts, contacted Grand Island Little Theatre about their desire to produce a show for the Grand Island community.
"It was perfect timing," says GILT board president, Sherma Jones. "We had just come off our 50th season and we were looking for a fundraising event to jump start our next season, and voila, Patrick called! These kids are super-talented and very serious about their work. Many of them studied under "Shak" at Grand Island Northwest, and they have gone on to study various aspects of the performing arts. I think the community is going to be pleasantly surprised, and possibly amazed at what they have to offer. As a community theatre, we are thrilled to have such talented youth that are willing to share their expertise and creative ideas with us."
